Joining the Club Permit Scheme with Geelong Motoring Enthusiasts Inc.
Geelong Motoring Enthusiasts Inc. is an approved VicRoads Club Permit Scheme participant, allowing eligible historic, classic and special interest vehicles to be registered under Victoria’s Club Permit Scheme.
If you’re considering joining our club and placing a vehicle on club permit, the information below outlines the process.
New Vehicle Applications
If your vehicle is not currently registered under the Club Permit Scheme, the process is as follows:
Step 1 – Become a Member
You must first become a financial member of Geelong Motoring Enthusiasts Inc. Membership applications can be completed online through our website.
Step 2 – Download the Required VicRoads Forms
You will need to obtain the following forms from VicRoads:
- Vehicle Eligibility and Standards Declaration for Club Permit Vehicles
- Club Permit Application Form
In some circumstances, VicRoads may also require a Club Permit Endorsement Form.
Step 3 – Obtain a Roadworthy Certificate
A current Victorian Roadworthy Certificate (RWC) is required for most new club permit applications. Please note that Victorian Roadworthy Certificates are generally valid for 30 days.
Step 4 – Vehicle Inspection
Contact our Club Permit Officer to arrange an inspection of your vehicle.
Vehicle inspections are typically conducted at our monthly Caffeine & Gasoline Event, but sometimes other arrangements can be made. Please bring:
- Your completed VicRoads forms
- Your current Roadworthy Certificate
- The vehicle being placed on permit
Geelong Motoring Enthusiasts Inc. does not charge any inspection or scrutineering fees for Club Permit applications.
Step 5 – Visit VicRoads
Once your vehicle has been inspected and the required paperwork has been signed, take all forms and supporting documentation to a VicRoads Customer Service Centre.
VicRoads will process the application and issue:
- Club Permit number plates (commonly referred to as “H Plates” or “Red Plates”)
- Registration label/sticker (where applicable)
- Logbook
Step 6 – Notify the Club
After receiving your Club Permit plates, please email the Club Permit Officer with:
- Your Club Permit plate number
- Permit expiry date
This information is required for our records and compliance obligations.
Club Participation Requirement
To remain eligible under the Geelong Motoring Enthusiasts Inc. Club Permit Scheme, members are required to attend a minimum of two club events every six-month period.
Our focus is on creating an active community of motoring enthusiasts, and participation helps ensure the ongoing success of the club and compliance with scheme requirements.
Transferring an Existing Club Permit Vehicle from Another Club
If your vehicle is already registered under Victoria’s Club Permit Scheme through another approved club, you may transfer the vehicle to Geelong Motoring Enthusiasts Inc.
Step 1 – Become a Member
You must first become a current financial member of Geelong Motoring Enthusiasts Inc.
Step 2 – Prepare the Required Documentation
You will need:
- A signed letter from the current permit holder requesting the transfer and listing any Club Permit vehicles being transferred.
- A Vehicle Eligibility and Standards Declaration for each vehicle being transferred.
- A letter from Geelong Motoring Enthusiasts Inc. confirming your current membership status.
Step 3 – Lodge the Transfer with VicRoads
Take all required documentation to your local VicRoads Customer Service Centre. VicRoads will update the nominated club attached to the permit.
Step 4 – Provide Confirmation to the Club
Once the transfer has been completed, email a copy of the VicRoads confirmation documentation to the club permit officer.
VicRoads requires clubs participating in the Club Permit Scheme to maintain accurate records of all vehicles attached to their permit program, and this documentation helps us meet those obligations.
